Papa Rico died tragically in Panama a few weeks ago. It was instant and people who saw the accident said he did not suffer.

Rico and I became friends towards the ends of both our times in Key West. I knew the guy from his pizza joint for years but I never really ran into him much as you didn't ever really see him on Duval Street. A mutual friend told us both that we were both making plans for the same thing - Panama. I started making visits to his pizza truck next to Walgreens (he didn't have to pay rent for two years - he knew the developer of the condos that were going up and they gave him an 'easement' lol)and we became friends. He had T-shirts made for his Restaurant in Boquete before he even had a Restaurant in Boquete. A man on a mission...

He sometimes asked me to find out stuff for him on the web. We joked about how he was going to get his dough mixer to Panama. He made a particular trip down with one suitcase full of mixer parts and nothing else!

I read Joe Bageant's book Dear Hunting With Jesus last fall. I loved it and have yet to visit many of the websites he mentions in it. I had every intention of contacting him eventually just to let him know how much I appreciated his writing. I missed the boat. He's dead. Cancer. Really fast and deadly cancer. I visited his blog today as I will be spending a lot of time there catching up. I came across this post:

My point here may not be obvious to some:

Al Jazeera is not offered on US cable services (save for one small service provider in Ohio and it is on many government private networks appearently) . They have a Bureau in DC. Because of their coverage during the Iraq invasion me bombed their offices in Baghdad (which was of course officially called a mistake of logistics). It is said Rumsfeld wanted to bomb their main office in Qatar (an ally of ours). I've linked to Al Jazeera from this website for a couple of years and have visited the site maybe an hour here or an hour there in the past year. Guess what? I'll be visiting even more now. Watch out Al Jazeera - we still have a lot of bombs left...
