"The highest form of ignorance is to reject something you know nothing about.”
– Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
The mainstream media in this country is not really interested in you knowing what is really going on with much. Even the nightly news is now entertainment and nightly entertainment is now more trusted by more Americans as a source of truth inside the hologram that surrounds us all. All media outlets are owned by somebody. Generally speaking, Journalists are not free to report the real important news. These companies all have an agenda. Might be liberal, might be conservative, might be Brittany Spears. Again the Internet is changing the way information flows around the world. There are interviews with our politicians, investigative articles and all kinds of video that you will never see on American TV or in American newspapers. There are groups in this country that seek the truth but you won't find them unless you go looking. Unfortunately most people think reading their daily newspaper or watching their favorite TV channel makes them aware of everything they need to know. The Internet is a doorway to information that people who have a lot to hide wish they could keep closed. Yes I know, anyone can say anything on the Internet. You have to dig to find the facts. And for every piece of information you can find, you can find someone who opposes its veracity. But facts are facts. They just get omitted when it's necessary to sell something.
This movie should make you take notice. There are quite a few things I don't like about the production of this one but it contains many factual references that are easily researched further by doing simple Google searches. Start looking at things from a different narrative. You might be happier you did.
"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act."
- George Orwell
The following links are here for mostly one reason - my own bookmarking purposes. Feel free to visit some of the places I visit daily, weekly and monthly:
I think this Gentleman is the most well informed and thoughtful commentator on the airwaves today. I was fortunate enough to get to see his show live in Madison, WI in the Summer of 2009 and became even more of a fan that day. I look forward to reading more of his books in the very near future.

demunder

The most popular internet discussion board I know of. I like this spot for its substantive value. This is also the home of the slogan - "Freedom isn't free, you have to pay attention."

factcheck
Don't take anything you hear in a politician's speech, a pundit's commentary or a political advertisement seriously until you check the facts. If you are not amazed at how facts are skewed, embellished and simply omitted, you are hopelessly partisan and a part of the problem.

wikigraphic

One of the most important web sites on the internet in my opinion. It isn't perfect and it changes everyday, is available in a multitude of languages and can be edited to by anyone. It operates off donations and is probably the most free source of info out there. Both literally and figuratively.
"A moment's insight is sometimes worth a life's experience."
- Oliver Wendell Holmes
propublica

"ProPublica is an independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest. We strive to foster change through exposing exploitation of the weak by the strong and the failures of those with power to vindicate the trust placed in them." Good enough for me.

thinkprogress
Very thoughtful and well organized web site. The contributors are excellent commentators without any sarcasm. All the articles include so many links to sources you can end up all over the web for days following the trail of one story.

CACenter
"Think tank, law firm, and action center dedicated to fulfilling the progressive promise of our Constitution’s text and history. We work in our courts, through our government, and with legal scholars to preserve the rights and freedoms of all Americans."

infowars
I think Alex Jones is somewhat of a windbag and his site is way over commercialized. Nothing wrong with a guy making a living, but I have to wonder about a person's intentions when they are telling you bad things are coming and turn around and try to sell you some protection. Having said that, I have picked up some information here I simply couldn't find anywhere else. Verbose, but interesting to me.

crew_logo
"CREW is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting ethics and accountability in government and public life by targeting government officials -regardless of party affiliation- who sacrifice the common good to special interests." Politicians despise this website!

publiccitizen

These guys have been around for awhile. Advocates for consumer safety among other things. Their claim to fame is getting the Nixon tapes released to the public. A great feature on this site is being able to write your congresspersons. Just write your note, fill in your info and they take care of the rest. You don't even need to know who your Representatives are.

Harpers
Since 1850. Owned by a private foundation, not one of the media giants. Unique perspective on politics, society, the environment, and culture. Emphasizing fine writing and original thought; the essays, articles and reporting here come from some of the most distinguished names in American letters.

globalresearch
Travel the planet via the world wide web and find out what's in the news from pretty much anywhere. Extensive archive of news articles, in-depth reports and analysis on issues which are barely covered by the mainstream media. Recommended as a resource by the American Library Association (ALA).
"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."
-Mark Twain

What Really Happened? A virtual ticker tape of articles and updates from the US and around the world. Updated almost hourly some days. Follow this site for a week and you'll have even more questions.

huffpo

The original internet newspaper. Although this site is definitely liberal leaning, you won't find any blind rhetoric from most of the contributors here. A lot of liberals and progressives don't agree with everything the current administration is up to and aren't afraid to say it here.

ats

"The Internet's largest and most popular discussion board community dedicated to the intelligent exchange of ideas and debate on a wide range of "alternative topics" such as conspiracies, UFO's, paranormal, secret societies, political scandals, new world order, terrorism, and dozens of related topics with an impressive demographic mix of members." Hold on to your hat!

fedup

Running thread of articles and video of everything bad about the "bailout." And everything about the bailout is bad in my opinion. Click "links" at the top of the home page for some real fun.

perotcharts

He's back! This is an excellent source of hard data. Ross takes the raw numbers and arranges it all in very easy to understand charts and graphs. Browse all the graphs, read some very good commentary and start really wondering - "WTF?!"

prjctsnsrd
A project of Sonoma State University since 1976, this little spot on the internet is more than worth a look. Check the "Top 25 for 2009" for some eye-popping articles and the "Corporate Media Ownership" link to learn who really owns what companies and who exactly is on their corporate boards. Some pretty amazing stuff here!

naturalnews
"The NaturalNews Network is a non-profit collection of public education websites covering topics that empower individuals to make positive changes in their health, environmental sensitivity, consumer choices and informed skepticism."

historycmns
Ever been in a discussion that turns into an argument over when something happened? At this site find out who's right. You might find out a little more than you bargained for while your at it.

“Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.”
-Ronald Reagan
shadowstats

The name of this website speaks for itself.

If you don't take the time to look at any of the web sites on this page, you should at the very least take a peek at this one. Aaron Russo was (he died in 2007) the quintessential Patriot in my opinion. He produced the movie America: Freedom to Fascism on the Taxes page of this web site.

antiwar

Explore the human side of something many people look at like they are watching a movie. Our country has been continually at war since WWII. There's big money in war and it's the people's money that goes to pay for it all. Our government is very good at scaring the hell out of us and making sure we feel like there really is a need to blow up folks in far away places that most of us can't even find on a map.

freepol
Libertarianism at it's finest! Individual liberty and the individual responsibility that individual liberty requires.

freelibrary

Over five million books and articles in digital format for free. Awesome site for researching a large variety of topics only requiring an investment of your time.

revpol

Set up in an easy to browse blog type format, go here to catch up on more news that will never make it to your nightly TV news. Revolutionary Politics is a website that promotes telling the truth as a revolutionary act.

aljaz
I love foreign news sites for the simple fact they aren't owned by U.S. corporations. Articles and interviews that dig into subjects and ask questions that are purposely excluded from the mainstream media outlets in this country. This organization is controversial to most Americans because it's owned by Arabs which leads the most ignorant of the masses to believe it's anti-American.

tpm

The original "dig deep" blog. John Marshall presents the facts behind all the "talking points" from the mainstream media echo chamber.

"This is a newspaper with a mind of its own and a voice that’s clear. We are free from proprietorial influence. We are not swayed by political affiliation." From Britain comes this excellent daily.

reason
"Providing a refreshing alternative to right-wing and left-wing opinion magazines by making a principled case for liberty and individual choice in all areas of human activity." This online version of the monthly magazine is updated daily.

"The mission of the Center for Public Integrity is to produce original investigative journalism about significant public issues to make institutional power more transparent and accountable."

photography-is-not-a-crime
Great site to keep up with the cluelessness of many law enforcement officials nationwide. There is nothing illegal about taking photographs in public. Nor should there be.
“If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”
-James Madison
